It all started when Bernard (Ben) Broughton began a small part-time painting business while working as a Washington, D.C. firefighter. His son, Bob, joined him during his summers and time off. In 1965, Bob graduated from the University of Maryland and Ben retired from the fire department, allowing them to focus on expanding the business full-time.
