The McIntire School of Commerce at the University of Virginia seeks applicants for the position of Director of Academic Operations (DAO) to lead the Academic Operations (AO) team and partner in delivering an outstanding environment for teaching and learning to transpire at McIntire. The AO team, part of the School’s broader Student Success Office, plays a key role in supporting both faculty and students. They are responsible for ensuring the smooth execution of undergraduate, graduate, and non-degree programs, guaranteeing that academic programs are delivered at the highest standard. This work includes services and logistics that impact academic planning, space management, faculty engagement, and student data processing.The DAO leads the AO unit and works closely with faculty and other administrators to provide comprehensive academic services for all programs at McIntire. The position is responsible for ensuring the accuracy, integrity, and confidentiality of academic data and provides critical consultation and support related to developing, implementing, and monitoring McIntire’s undergraduate and graduate curriculum. The DAO provides comprehensive registrar services to McIntire community and ensures student progress is reported, audited, and communicated in a timely and accurate manner throughout their time at the School. Additionally, they serve as the key steward of student data and manage access to the Student Information System (SIS) for the school. The DAO is the key relationship manager with other University offices that support academic planning, academic policies and degree progress issues. These offices include but are not limited to other school registrars, the Office of the University Registrar (UREG), Student Financial Services (SFS), and the UVA Military Educational Benefits Team.The successful candidate will have experience leading teams who work with student records, data management, and student information systems. They will also have experience developing and implementing innovative ways to streamline and improve processes to maximize efficiency and effectiveness. In addition, candidates should demonstrate excellent organizational skills, outstanding customer service, strong interpersonal skills, a commitment to supporting a diverse community of learners, and the ability to thrive in a fast-paced, team-oriented, and entrepreneurial environment. Creativity, strong written and oral communication skills, and technology proficiency are vital. Flexibility to work occasional evenings and weekends based on program schedules and student needs is preferred.International travel opportunities with one of McIntire’s short-term study abroad programs may be available to staff members on an optional basis.Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree and at least 8 years of experience in academic administration
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite, especially Excel
Preferred Qualifications
- Master’s degree in student affairs, higher education, counseling, or equivalent field
- Experience with student information and reporting systems such as UVa’s SIS and UBI
- Working knowledge of tools such as Qualtrics, Acalog, Curriculog, ImageNow, Stellic, EMS, Salesforce, and DocuSign
The position is eligible for participation in UVA Flex Work as outlined in the University Workplace Flexibility Policy.
